The New Old Fashion Haircut

Source: Gregory McDivitt

Friends, even as you read these words, the old fashioned barber shop - truly an American institution - is facing an insidious attack which threatens its very existence. If things don't turn around, and fast, the barber shop as we know it will soon be nothing but a fond memory, like vinyl records and soda pop in real glass bottles. And what is it that threatens the continued existence of what used to be one of the places you could go in any neighborhood in this country and find real salt of the earth type Americans?

It's the rise of the metrosexual American male. That's right; it seems that for more and more men in this country, a simple haircut just isn't good enough anymore. They don't just want to look neat and clean. Oh, no. That might have been good enough for your dad and his generation, but times have changed. Nowadays it seems that more and more men want to get all gussied up and be pampered just like their wives and girlfriends. So, instead of heading for the good old barber shop, they're going to places with names like "grooming parlors" and, I kid you not, "spas."

How did this happen? Who can say? It certainly makes no logical sense. It seems like only yesterday that the average American male was quite content to sit around a real barbershop shooting the breeze about the local sports team with his neighbors, while thumbing through a 2 year old copy of Motor Trend or Sport Illustrated magazine, all while nursing a can of Coke or Pepsi. But not anymore. Now he's down at the "spa" drinking a glass of Chablis while he's receiving a pedicure by soaking his feet in a tank of fish called garra rufa, which nibble the dead skin away from his foot. While the tiny little carp dine on his bunions, he's discussing with his aesthetician whether or not he wants the whole package, or if he'll skip the bikini wax this time and just go with a manicure and a facial.

No, I'm not making any of this up. It's all true, even the part about the fish pedicure.

Don't let this happen to your town! Support your local barber shop! The future of America depends on it!

Alternative Therapy for Pregnant Women: Safe Or Not?

Source: Jo Carthew

Are you pregnant and hoping to enhance this experience by enjoying some complimentary therapy? You may have benefited from alternative therapies in the past and want to continue into your pregnancy but feel concerned about their safety at this time? Pregnancy is a special and thrilling time, and enjoying your pregnancy is a key part of looking after your and your babies well being. Pregnancy is a natural condition and our bodies have the wherewithal to cope with all the astonishing developments within us, but for some women it is a difficult time. If you are struggling with aspects of your pregnancy it is important to recognize that this is not your fault. Becoming a mother is amazing but it can be difficult too. The stresses and strains of life and the remarkable changes taking place within your body can leave you feeling exhausted and worried.

Throughout your life your physical and emotional health is vitally important for leading a well balanced, fulfilling life. When this is ignored it is all too easy to find the frustrating and stressful experiences mounting and becoming overwhelming. All of a sudden fun, laughter and the excitement of being a mum-to-be can seem like a thing of the past. One popular way to restore this balance is through complementary therapies. The use of such therapies can also benefit you and your baby when you become pregnant. There are many treatments that are safe during pregnancy such as hypnotherapy, acupuncture, homeopathy and reflexology. It is important to check the qualifications of any therapist you see and be sure to tell them you are pregnant so the treatment can be modified to you and your babies needs.

Reflexology is a well-established complementary therapy that has been used in various forms around the world since ancient times. Reflexology is not an invasive treatment that focuses on pressures points in the feet and hands. The perceptive, trained hands of a reflexology practitioner can identify tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet. By working on these areas, generally using hands only, the therapist can help to balance the whole body. Reflexology is a wonderfully relaxing experience. This specialized foot massage can help your body to handle the stresses of everyday life and cope with many of the common ailments associated with pregnancy. For example fatigue, mood swings, nausea and vomiting, swollen ankles and pelvic and back pain.

Now picture yourself slipping off your shoes and sitting back to enjoy an hour of blissful relaxation. This is a time for you to convey positive, relaxed, tranquil emotions to your baby. People confirm that a reflexology massage feels wonderful and can also provide time to breathe and enjoy your pregnancy.

During labor it self, it can be utilized for relaxation and pain relief. In the post-natal period, it is often brilliant for breastfeeding problems such as maintaining or increasing milk supply, postnatal depression and general relaxation. Research has shown that women who have regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy have far shorter labor than those who do not (on average one third as long). Reflexology is continuing to establish its reputation and regard through the positive results people experience. Empiric knowledge and research studies have demonstrated that those receiving regular reflexology during pregnancy have enhanced pregnancies and shorter birthing with less intervention.

The unborn baby also appears to enjoy Reflexology and it is common for babies to become very lively during a treatment. In some cases the therapist will be able to feel the baby growing - first a little like a tadpole, and then at times a bulge growing on the inner side of your foot, above the heel. Your feet really can reflect what is going on in your body particularly at this exciting time.

Reflexology is great in pregnancy because all you need to do is ease off your shoes and socks and sit back, usually in a recliner chair or on a couch. There is no need to worry about undressing or lying flat as the therapist really just needs your feet so you can easily find a comfortable position that suits all three of you The reflexology therapist, you and your baby!

The history of this specialized holistic massage shows how complementary therapies improved lives well before western medicine developed. The term alternative therapy is often used for treatments of this kind and this may be misleading. It could suggest that reflexology is a substitute or alternative to traditional medical care but it is not. It can compliment traditional medicine with great success but not be complete replacement. The treatment is not a replacement for medical care and advice from your health care provider should always be sought when you have health concerns.

If you choose to begin any alternative therapies during pregnancy you and your therapist will decide whether you wish to begin during the first three cautious months of pregnancy. At this stage, many women worry about the risk of miscarriage. Even though the aim of reflexology and many other holistic therapies is simply to bring about balance, it would be all too easy for a mum to feel that the treatment may have contributed in some way if the pregnancy ended during this time. To avoid doubt, many therapists ask mums-to-be to get back in touch after the first three months. However, there are practitioners who are experienced or who specialize in maternity treatments that may be willing to treat at this time, so please do talk to them

Every pregnancy is unique and you are your own best specialist. We all need guidance and support at this exciting time and it is important to seek out care that benefits you and your baby. Relaxing and looking after your physical and mental health may help you to enjoy this wonderful time and promote a positive, healthy and calm environment for your baby. It is an exciting journey to becoming a mum!

Many people find complimentary therapies very beneficial and enjoyable for adults, children and babies alike. If you are concerned about your health please do consult your health care provider.

Considering Plastic Surgery

Source: Mike Selvon

Have you considered plastic surgery but were too intimidated to start the process? There are two very important steps to take initially. The first is to choose the right plastic surgeon and the second is to ask the right questions. Anyone with a medical degree and a valid license to practice medicine can call themselves a plastic surgeon. Do you want someone who specializes in hip replacement doing your abdominoplasty or performing your face lift? You need to do your research to ensure a positive outcome.

So how do you make sure the doctor you are interested in is really a plastic surgeon and not just a doctor performing plastic surgeries? Check whether he or she has a plastic surgeon's certification and experience. You can check with the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) online at Abplsurg to verify their status. It should be a warning sign to look somewhere else if your surgeon is not a member.

What type of training do plastic surgeons certified through ABPS have? How does their training differ from that of non-members? At the bare minimum, they must have completed a 2 or 3 year training program in cosmetic plastic surgery from an approved medical institution. Board certified plastic surgeons are qualified to perform plastic, reconstructive, cosmetic or aesthetic surgery.

Once you have chosen a qualified surgeon, the next step is your first visit to his or her office. During your visit, you most likely will be asked to fill out your medical history for the surgeon to review. He or she will ask you a series of questions, but most of this first visit should be you asking a number of important questions of your own. There are some standard questions you should ask during your first plastic surgery consultation.

This is a comprehensive list of questions to ask your surgeon. How often have you performed this type of plastic surgery procedure? Where will my surgery be performed? Are there any medical tests that need to be performed prior to the procedure, and are they included in the pricing? Approximately how long will my surgery take? What kind of anesthesia will be used? Are there any potential side effects, and if so, how have you dealt with them? What type of pain should I expect and what medications are used to treat it? Are the benefits of this procedure permanent? How long after surgery can I return to work? When can I resume normal activities like exercise, sex, etc.? How many check-ups will I have with the doctor after surgery?

However, there are some instances when plastic surgery can be performed by doctors who are not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. These are typically doctor-specific procedures, such as having eyelid surgery done by an ophthalmologist. You also need to know what will happen if an emergency should occur. Are there resources available to deal with the situation quickly? Cosmetic surgery is a serious elective medical procedure, so doing your research prior to going under the knife only makes sense.

Tattoo For Women

Source: Adam Woodham

Sometimes, beauty is all about art. Literally. It's all about the galleries you find when picking out a tattoo for women. Changing this is easy, because there's one sure fire way to pull up the best art galleries to find a tattoo for women.

Before you even start to implement this new way to search for artwork, you need to know why it's needed. It's needed because too many people are still reliant on search engines. It has become a terrible way to locate even one decent gallery. For quite a few years now, search engines have been yanking up lists of the most horrible galleries, where cookie cutter designs run rampant. If you want a generic tattoo for women, this is your best shot, by far. If you "don't", then you need the following input.

There is one very underused tool on the web, which can lead you directly to so many of the fresh, high quality artwork galleries. This underused tool would be in the form of large forums. The bigger, the better. There is no need to get involved with them, or sign up to any newsletters. You just need the info they already have. It's all tucked away in their archives, too. If you hop into the archives, you can yank up bundles of topics about tattoos. Hundreds of them most likely. It's the skeleton key to finding real artwork when you're looking for a tattoo for women.

Your job is now as simple as washing the dishes. You jump into some of the topics and look around. Reading just a portion of these topics will reveal so much inside information, including tons of posts where females have told others about their recent findings of superb artwork galleries. This knowledge is laced all throughout the topics, bringing you to the hidden galleries that are sure to make it a pleasure to find a good tattoo for women. It's all about quality and originality when picking out the perfect tat.

Finding a tattoo for women doesn't have to be a blundering journey through mounds of generic artwork any more.

How To Improve Your Beauty Salon Quality

Source: Debbie Devis

When a woman goes to a beauty salon not only does she want to look beautiful when she's done, but she wants to feel relaxed and refreshed as well. Improving beauty salon air quality is probably one of the most important factors that contribute to feeling good about the salon experience when she leaves.

Here are 3 steps for improving beauty salon air quality that will work, and not only keep your repeat customers coming back again and again, but will attract new customers by making your beauty salon's name a buzz word all over town.

Close the Doors-Many salons keep their doors open. So whether their doors open into a shopping mall or to the outside, the open doors let in noise from shoppers, and/or noise, smoke, dust, and dirt from traffic. Keeping the doors closed creates a haven where clients can get away from the hectic pace and clamor of daily life. Something as simple as closing the door does a lot towards improving beauty salon air quality as well as making your shop a more restful and relaxing place to be.

Regulate Temperature and Air Circulation--If you've ever had to sit in a room that was either too hot or too cold, you know that it's unpleasant and is an experience that you remember with annoyance, and it is certainly not one you're willing to pay to repeat. Setting the temperature so that clients are comfortable cannot be underestimated. There should also be good air circulation to eliminate stuffiness. Proper temperature control and air circulation will also help minimize humidity which can cause mold and mildew problems, particularly under sinks.

Remove Airborne Chemicals with a HEPA Purifier-Frequently our noses can smell a beauty shop long before we see it. The chemicals used in beauty shops are potent, and many evaporate into the air easily creating a smell that is both unpleasant, but more importantly, unhealthy. These volatile organic chemicals have been shown to be unhealthy and dangerous when exposure is frequent or prolonged. In a beauty salon, unless you do something, your exposure is both. Using a high efficiency particle arresting or HEPA air purifier with an inner filter specifically designed to eliminate airborne chemicals is an essential step in improving beauty salon air quality. A fan without a filter will simply move the chemicals around, and opening windows and doors adds pollutants rather than removes them.

Beauticians are exposed to these chemicals daily for many hours, and risk both acute and long term health complications because of the frequent and prolonged exposure. So even though improving beauty salon air quality will improve your customers' experience and help grow your business, one of the most important reasons to improve beauty salon air quality is to safeguard your health and the health of the other beauticians working beside you in the salon.

Long Lasting Pedicure

Manicures can be costly and take time to do, so how can you get them to last? By making a few changes to your nail routine your manicure will last longer.

Don't use nail polish. Nail polish is just one small part of a manicure, even if it is the thing you notice first. To have your manicure last longer, give the polish miss. If your nails look healthy underneath a natural color is stylish. Instead of painting your nails why not have them buffed. You don't need to wait for them to dry, and you won't have any chipped nail polish to fix after your manicure. This will certainly save time.

Base coat and top coat. If you can't do without nail polish then get a good base and top coat. Base coat acts as a primer which helps the nail color stick to your nails longer, and the top coat acts to stop chipping. With two layers of clear coat, your nails will be stronger, and they will be less likely to chip. This way you can go even longer without seeking another manicure.

Re do the top coat. You can still re-apply at home even if you had your manicure done at a salon. The top coat is the key factor to keeping your manicure looking fresh. Just re-apply a base and a top coat at home. Doing this will keep your nail color true and flawless.

Moisturize. In the week after your manicure, make sure you keep your hands and fingernails moisturized. Your hands will feel soft and supple, and help you to stop wanting to get that same feeling from the manicure salon every week. The extra moisture is also good for your cuticles. Use a hand and nail cream often to make your manicure last. Also think about doing an intensive moisture treatment on your hands every now and again, using gloves. You can buy cotton gloves at pharmacies which are made for the purpose of being worn all night over moisturized hands. Doing this even just once a week, will make you feel pampered and help your manicure to last much longer.

Beauty and wellness rhyme together.

Safe Nail Salon

Source: Tiffany Provost, www.ezine.com

Receiving a manicure or pedicure can subject a person to a vast array of germs and diseases, putting you at risk for serious health problems. Who knew that nail salons were so dangerous? When you think about the number of germs and diseases that customers bring through the salon door everyday, you then understand the chances you are taking every time you get a manicure or pedicure. By following these rules, you can learn how to avoid germs and infections while visiting a nail salon.

Do not trim your cuticles. No matter how pudgy your cuticles are, do not get them removed at the nail salon. In reality, they do have an important job, they protect your nail from infection and bacteria. You are risk of a serious infection if you have this piece of germ-fighting skin removed during your manicure. Stay safe in the nail salon, cuticles can only be pushed back.

Remain alert. Always be familiar with the type of nail treatment you are having done at the salon as this is part of maintaining your health. Firstly, pedicures and manicures should not be painful at all. You need to ask the person giving you the manicure to stop if you have any stinging, and increasing pain or any other feeling that causes you to be concerned. It's is always better to think preventative rather than reactive. You should not allow the nail salon to use any sharp objects on your hands or feet. Doing this will make the area open to infection. Razors, Credo blades, or callus files are instruments that may make your skin vulnerable to disease and infection in the nail salon.

Your own tools. Many of the common health hazards of a nail salon come from the tools of the trade. Inadequate sanitization of items may trigger worrisome health complications for clients. To avoid potential health hazards, make sure your nail salon cleans and sterilizes their tools after each use. If in doubt, you can ensure good hygiene at the pedicurist's by providing your own set of grooming gear at your appointment. Knowing that stray germs will be unable to be get into your body will allow you to relax.

Trusted salons are the best choice. When picking a nail salon, use your gut instinct. Don't even risk it if the salon doesn't feel right. If upon arrival you see an excess of dust or an unsanitary work station you should choose somewhere else. For the sake of safety you should choose a cleaner and more hygienic salon. When you approach a nail salon about service, they should have a license from the state in plain view so you can be sure they are qualified to assist you. Keep your eyes open at the nail salon in order to avoid any thing that may have an adverse effect on your health.

Cheap Makeup For Luxrious Look

Source: StealDress ; Ezine.com

There are so many cosmetic products already on the market, with countless brands and prices to choose from, and more being added every day. As a result, navigating the world of makeup shopping can be overwhelming, especially if you are on a budget. Read on to find out which products you need to invest in and which ones you can get away with paying less for.

Foundation is something you absolutely should invest in. Our skin, especially around the face and neck, is the very first thing that gives away our age, so any product we use on it should be carefully selected. Cheap foundations can clog your pores, causing more bad than good in the long-run. In addition, pricier versions tend to do a much better job of masking imperfections and providing even coverage.

Don't forget to prep your skin with a good moisturizer before applying foundation. Moisturizer is another product that you shouldn't try to save on--your skin will thank you for it later. In addition, having a quality moisturizer and foundation can help you kill two birds with one stone. You can use the two products as a base for eye shadow, removing the need to spend money on an eye shadow primer.

Eye shadow is another splurge-worthy item. Cheaper shadows tend to fade and crease after a full day of wear, requiring frequent reapplication. At the end of the day, your lids are covered with layers and layers of shadow that are hard to properly blend. A versatile product that can dramatically enhance your eyes and also doubles as eyeliner is worth paying extra for.

We've all seen 'spider' lashes, which are covered in countless coats of mascara that hang off of the lashes in clumps. This is why you should invest in a quality mascara of which a quick application of just one or two coats creates long, sweeping lashes. Cheap mascaras--even the waterproof ones--tend to smudge and run at the slightest sign of moisture. Spend a little more so that you can avoid the "raccoon eyes" look even if you get caught in a rainstorm.

An eyeliner pencil is a product for which an inexpensive version will suffice. Because we are constantly blinking and rubbing our eyes, it is hard to keep eyeliner looking neat for long periods of time--even if using the most expensive brands, as my experience has shown. A reapplication here and there will be necessary, but you can help extend wear by fortifying the eyeliner with a layer of eye shadow. The great thing about not paying a lot for eyeliner is that you can buy several pencils in different colors, which will suit any mood and makeup look.

Eyebrow pencils and grooming tools area another area in which you can definitely save a few bucks. I own both a drugstore brand eyebrow grooming brush and one that came with an eyeliner pencil that cost about $30. Both brushes produce identical results, so I see no need to splurge on one of these. As for eyebrow pencils, what really matters is picking a shade that provides a good color match. Because you use the pencil to fill in the spaces between eyebrow hairs, the quality of individual strokes of color is hardly visible. As a result, the best quality pencil is not necessary for creating neat eyebrows.

Lip gloss is something that most women own many types of. Different colors, levels of opacity, textures--the choices are endless. Most drugstore have succeeded at creating affordable lip glosses that don't sacrifice lasting power. Like eyeliner, I can't imagine owning just one, so I recommend getting several inexpensive lip glosses that you can mix and match with your other makeup to create different looks. If you get tired of any one, you will be able to toss it without having to feel guilty over how much you paid for it.

Soothing Chair Massage

Chair massage is a short massage, anywhere from five to 30 minutes, done through the clothing. It typically focuses on key tension areas in the back, neck, shoulders and arms. A professional practitioner performs it in a specially designed ergonomic massage chair. They were originally referred to by its creator, David Palmer, as "on-site massage" since the massage chairs were portable and were usually brought into a workplace. However, this kind of onsite massage service is now more commonly referred to as simply "chair massage" and sometimes as "seated massage".

They are performed in all kinds of environments. Most people know about the service as a corporate massage service, although probably only half of all of them are done in the workplace. Retail chair massage, either done in massage stores or as stand alone massage booths or massage kiosks is becoming increasingly common.

One of the benefits of them is that it takes a service that is typically done behind closed doors and makes it visible to the public. Because it is done out in the open, people getting them know exactly what to expect. They can see who is doing the massage and what they are doing.

Another benefit of chair massage is that it is done over the clothing. Many people feel uncomfortable getting undressed for traditional massage that is done on a table. With seated massage, people can avoid the discomfort and awkwardness that they may feel having to disrobe.

The sessions are usually shorter than traditional massage making it very convenient for anyone to fit into their schedule. And because the sessions are shorter, the cost for a chair massage is relatively low. These benefits make chair massage a safe, convenient and affordable. It's no wonder that more people are introduced to massage through chair massage than through any other massage technique.

Learn About Beauty Care Products

By spending a few minutes every day you can have the beautiful skin you have always wanted; providing you are willing to put in the time for your skin care on a regular basis you should see some beneficial results. Whilst plastic surgery, liposuction and other invasive techniques have been incredibly popular in the past, mainly because they provide near instant results, that is no longer the case with modern beauty care. But more natural beauty care products are the order of the day now and whilst they may take a little longer to produce results, they are longer lasting and have other health benefits.

In the past these beauty care products might have had a poor image being confined to anti-aging lotions and cold creams. Today some of these products are among the most important available to help make the skin look young and healthy. The importance of our skin cannot be stressed enough and like other areas of our body, requires a little care and attention.

Before any other type of skin care is carried out, it is necessary to clean the skin first; this will ensure that any toxins, environmental pollution and bacteria are removed. This is done by a gentle massage routine using the cleanser on a cotton pad, finally rinsed off with warm water.

The cleanser can affect the PH balance of your skin so the nest step is to use a toner which will restore this balance. To reduce the number of wrinkles and help make your skin soft and supple, use moisturizing creams or lotions once you have finished with the skin toner. This beauty care product step helps to seal in your treatment and to lock in the natural moisture in your skin.

Each week, at least once, and as part of your skin care regime you should exfoliate the skin to remove dead cells which will help provide a deeper cleanse. Once you have exfoliated; a normal cleanse and then tone will be necessary as part of the process.

Beauty care product eye creams can now be used to help the very delicate skin around this area by reducing and swelling and signs of aging like lines but improving the elasticity of the skin in this region. Water is another undervalued commodity that helps detoxify and improve the skin tone along with regular exercise and a good diet. The health of your skin should not be underestimated, not just for vanity reasons but for our overall health as it is a barrier against the elements, pollution and disease.
